The End Of One Year & The Beginning Of Another
I always find this time of year a strange time. I look back at the previous twelve months with a mixture of happiness, sadness, satisfaction and disbelief for what has played out. Strangely, I almost feel the same mixed bag of emotions as I look forward to the year ahead …
I enjoy writing, however writing is a solitary affair so it is always wonderful to hear from people who have read my books and meet potential new readers. I had a chance to do just that at the Wadebridge Christmas Craft and Gift Fair in Cornwall which was held as part of the festive celebrations in the lead-up to Christmas.
The event reminded me of how fortunate I am to be a published writer and how luck played a major role in achieving it. There are many great writers out there who are yet to be discovered. It is a shame that people who love books may never get the chance to read their words because their writing does not “fit” with what is believed to be the “in thing” for today’s market. I hope those writers persist in their dreams and do not let the rejections grind them down as the majority of authors have received rejections at some point in their life too. I did. Learn from the constructive feedback, but do not dwell on the others. Their words of rejection will only eat away at your confidence and, ultimately, your dreams.
As I mentioned earlier, luck also plays a major role. However, luck is a flighty, evasive “animal” that is opportunistic and appears from nowhere. It does not wait for those who dither and will disappear in a blink of an eye. So keep an eye out for it and, if you should spy it, grab it with both hands to make the most of its company. Nurture it and let it multiply because everyone deserves a little luck in their lives.
So, as this year draws to a close I’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope your dreams for 2018 will come true … and that the year is full of luck waiting for you to grab it and make the most of it.
